Notifications

How Schoolwati tells you when something needs attention — the bell icon, emails, and SMS alerts.

Notifications

The bell icon in the top-right of every page shows you alerts. This article covers what triggers a notification and where it goes.

What triggers a notification

Common things:

  • A document needs your review.
  • A leave request is waiting for approval.
  • An invoice is overdue.
  • A grievance has been assigned to you.
  • A payroll run is waiting for approval.

You only get notifications for things in your scope (your campus, your role).

The bell drawer

Click the bell to open a list of notifications, grouped:

  • Action needed — things waiting on you.
  • Informational — FYI events (someone else approved something).
  • System — platform-level alerts (subscription renewal, integration outage).

Each row links to the page where you can take action. "Mark all as read" clears the unread count.

Email and SMS

Some events also send an email (and a small set send SMS — usually urgent ones):

  • Welcome emails go to new staff and parents.
  • Fee reminders go to defaulters.
  • Attendance alerts go to parents of absent students.
  • Payment receipts go after each successful online payment.
  • Pending approval reminders go to approvers.

What's coming

  • Per-user notification preferences — turn specific types on/off per user. Today, what you receive is decided by your role.
  • Daily digest mode — get a single morning email summarising the day instead of one email per event.
