Your home page (the dashboard)
The dashboard is the first page you see after logging in. It's a single screen that tells you what's happening today across your campus.
The number cards at the top
- Total Students — how many active students you have in this campus. Click to open the full student list.
- Total Staff — how many active employees. Click for the staff list.
- Today's Attendance — what percentage of students were marked present today. Click to open the attendance grid.
- Outstanding Fees — how much money is still owed to you. Click for the defaulters list.
All numbers update live from the database — there's no refresh button needed. If something looks wrong, it's usually because you're on the wrong campus (check the dropdown in the top-right).
The "today" widgets
- Pending Approvals — leaves, documents, photos, expenses that need your sign-off. Knock these out first — staff get frustrated waiting.
- Recent Admissions — the last few students admitted.
- Recent Payments — the last few fee payments received.
- Upcoming Exams — exams scheduled in the next two weeks.
- Upcoming Holidays — holidays in the next month.
- Today's Birthdays — students and staff celebrating today (great for the front office).
The trend charts
- Admissions this month — a line graph showing how admissions are trending.
- Fee collections — daily collections this month.
- Attendance trend — average attendance for the last 30 days.
The alert strip (when it shows up)
A red strip appears at the top of the dashboard when something needs your attention:
- Your Schoolwati subscription expires in 7 days.
- An integration (like the payment gateway) isn't working.
- A scheduled job failed.
Click the alert to fix it.
What you see depends on your role
Not everyone sees the same dashboard:
- Institution Admin — every card across every campus.
- Branch Admin — every card for their one campus.
- Teacher — a smaller dashboard with only their classes' attendance and upcoming exams.
- Accountant — fee + payroll cards prominent.
- Front Office — admissions and pending approvals prominent.
Why some cards show zero
The most common reasons:
- Wrong campus — check the top-right dropdown.
- Brand new school — a fresh account shows zeros until you do things. Normal.
- No attendance taken today — "Today's Attendance" shows zero until someone marks attendance.
