Subjects and grading
Subjects are what students learn (Math, Science, English). Each program has its own subject list — CBSE primary subjects are different from B.Tech subjects. Inside a program, every class follows the same list.
Adding subjects
- From the menu: Setup → Academics → Subjects.
- Pick the program from the dropdown.
- Click + Subject.
- Fill in:
- Name — like "Mathematics". - Code — short code (MATH, SCI, ENG) used as a column header. - Type — Core, Elective, or Co-curricular. - Max marks default — overridable per exam.
- Save.
Core, elective, co-curricular
- Core subjects — taken by every student in the program (Math, English).
- Elective — students pick (Physics vs Commerce streams).
- Co-curricular — Art, Physical Education. Often graded with letters instead of marks.
When a student is admitted to an elective-based program, they pick electives. Their subject list updates accordingly.
Grade scales
A grade scale maps a percentage range to a letter grade.
Built-in scales
- 10-point CBSE — A1 (91–100), A2 (81–90), B1, B2, … E (below 33).
- 5-point ICSE — A, B, C, D, E.
- A-F US — A (90+), B (80+), C (70+), D (60+), F (below).
- Pass / Fail — for skill-based co-curricular subjects.
Custom scales
Setup → Exams → Grade Scales → + Custom. Define your own bands and pick which subjects use them.
Assigning subject teachers
Each subject in a class needs a teacher. Set up at Staff → Teacher Assignments or directly on the class detail page. See Assigning teachers to classes.
